American
Water Spaniel is not in our hunting practice
too well known and exploited. Still has all the
prerequisites to be mainly used in small game hunting
grounds with small and water feathered game. Due to
the tireless spirit, a remarkable willingness to
produce, excellent snoop on all types of forests and
sharpness on varmint hunters is a great helper, which
is dedicated to year-round protection and during
small game hunting season. After managing obedience
is well suited for managing and work on hoofed, both
before the blow (battue,) and after the shot . While
snoop is usually longer than the traditional
"under arms", but with regular residence in
the above-mentioned hunting and mastering common
obedience necessary for each hunting dog, snoop is
possible to adjust to the required distance
Selection of tests for hunting practice, even in this
breed is left upto the choice of the breed and needs
of the owner. American Water Spaniel was brought to
all our types of tests designed for hunting
applicability, even for tests of hounds. Some
individuals are employed in the practice of hunting,
even though they are not included in the breed.
American
Water Spaniel was bred as a hunting dog in
the period from mid to late 19th century. History
most inclines to believe that the breed originated in
the valley of Wolf and Fox rivers in Wisconsin.
Today, non-existent English Water Spaniel, Curly
Coated retriever and Irish water Spaniard gave the
basis for a new breed of AWS. Probably in the
formation of AWS participated Spaniel German
(Deutscher Wachtelhund) as a wave of immigrants in the late
19th century was directed to areas of Fox and Wolf
River. All of the above breeds dogs belonged to the
most used for bringing the game in the Midwest U.S.
before the World War II. Hunters used the newly bred
as a versatile breed of dog that performs its task
equally well on land as in water. There was always
need for a smaller dog that is well received by canoe
from the water and takes up minimal space here.
United Kennel Club recognized the breed as pure AWS
in 1920, the American Kennel Club about 20 years
later in 1940. FCI accepted standard AWS in 1999.
AWS with us
First dogs of this breed came from the U.S. to the
Czech Republic in late 1995, namely Little Brownies
Gunner and his brother Little Brownies Hunter. The
year 1996 welcomed us with two females, Kei-Rin's
Pocahantis and Swan Lakes Dakota Girl. In 1998,
followed by the U.S. female Little Beownies Cheynne
girl and the dog Chief Pontiac of Swan Lake. The last
increase in imported American Water Spaniels in
Bohemia, was a dog of Mackinaw Of Swan Lake. The
first two litters were written in our stud book in
1998. Although we have from the beginning of this
breed in our country about 100 registered puppies,
breeding base was always very small. And that is why
AWS is one of the breeds with a small number.
